How it works

How to add a watermark to a PDF

  1. 1

    Upload your PDF

Drop your PDF into the tool. It is loaded and rendered locally in your browser - the file is not sent to any server.

  2. 2

    Configure the watermark

Type your watermark text (such as "CONFIDENTIAL", "DRAFT", or your company name). Choose one of nine positions on the page, set the opacity from subtle to bold, and adjust the font size.

  3. 3

    Apply and download

Click "Add Watermark" to stamp every page and download the result. The watermark is embedded directly in the PDF - it appears in print and in every viewer.

A watermark communicates document status at a glance - whether a file is a draft, confidential, for-review-only, or branded with your organization name. PDFsuite lets you add text watermarks with full control over position, opacity, and size, and applies them consistently across every page of the document. The entire operation is browser-based and private: your file never leaves your device, no account is required, and the tool is free.

Nine placement options - top-left, top-center, top-right, center-left, center, center-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, bottom-right - let you choose a position that does not obscure the most important content in your specific document. Opacity control allows a light diagonal-style stamp that sits behind the text, or a bold foreground mark for documents where visibility is the priority. Font size adjustment ensures the watermark scales appropriately whether you are watermarking a one-page invoice or a hundred-page report.

Unlike online watermarking services, PDFsuite processes your document in the browser, meaning confidential contracts, unreleased reports, and sensitive proposals never transit a third-party server. The watermark is embedded into the PDF content stream and will appear when the document is printed or viewed in any standard reader. There is no dependency on a specific PDF viewer to display it - the text is part of the page itself.

FAQ

Common questions

Can I add an image watermark instead of text?
The current watermark tool focuses on text watermarks with full typography control. For image-based watermarking - such as placing a logo on every page - use the "Add Images" tool, which allows you to place any PNG or JPG on a specific page position and then apply it across the document.
Will the watermark appear when the PDF is printed?
Yes. Because the watermark is embedded into the PDF content stream rather than applied as a viewer-side annotation, it appears in every viewer and in every print job. It is not possible for a recipient to simply hide it by turning off an annotation layer.
Can a recipient remove the watermark from the PDF?
A determined recipient with PDF editing software can attempt to remove any watermark. If preventing removal is a priority, combine watermarking with password protection using the Protect tool to restrict editing permissions on the file. No watermark method is completely tamper-proof without encryption.
