Is this the same as a certificate-based digital signature?

No. It places your signature on the page, as drawn, typed or uploaded, which is what most everyday forms ask for. A certificate-based digital signature also proves who signed with a cryptographic ID, and PDFsuite does not add those.

Where are my saved signatures kept?

Only on this device, in your browser or the Mac app. They are never uploaded. Delete them any time in the Sign panel.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is opened, signed and saved on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Can I add a date, initials or a check mark?

Yes. The Sign panel has initials, today's date in four formats, check, cross and dot marks, and Approved, Draft and Confidential labels.

A drawn signature is saved into the PDF as vector lines, a typed one as real text in a handwriting font, and an uploaded one as a transparent image, so it looks sharp at any zoom and prints cleanly.

Placed items can be moved, resized, recolored or deleted, and every change can be undone. The editor's other tools, like adding text, work on the same document.
